In early August 2024, the team of Sony Car Audio, GoFast Solutions, and Broken Silence Custom Car Audio in Greenwich, CT, embarked on a mission to create a stunning demo car to debut at the 2024 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, NV. B.J. Curcio, the owner of Broken Silence, and his head installer Adan Martinez set to work with a plan to integrate a suite of Sony Mobile ES amplifiers, speakers, and subwoofers into the car while providing consumers with a glimpse of what can be done using a factory-installed infotainment system as the source. As you can see from the images below, the results in the Broken Silence Mustang are nothing less than stunning.
Mustang Dark Horse Audio Interior Speakers
The new Sony Mobile ES audio system in the Mustang is a four-way design with rear-fill speakers. The front stage features the Sony Mobile ES XS-163ES three-way component speaker set. The Broken Silence crew created acrylic mounting adapters and installed the 6.5-inch woofers and 3.5-inch midrange drivers in the stock door locations. They added XKG Glow LED lighting behind the stock grilles to showcase the speakers at events.
The one-inch tweeters from the XS-163ES set were custom installed in the A-pillar trim panels. Rather than firing across the dash, the tweeters are mounted close to being on-axis with the listening position. B.J. and Adan worked magic to make the tweeters look right at home in their new customized locations.
A set of Sony Mobile ES XS-160ES 6.5-inch coaxial speakers are mounted on another set of custom acrylic adapter rings on the rear parcel shelf. Broken Silence Custom Car Audio has a CNC laser, making cutting the rings with fraction-of-a-millimeter precision a snap.
Amp Rack and Subwoofer System
Moving to the Mustang’s trunk, the first thing you’ll notice is the custom subwoofer enclosure. At the rear of the trunk is a sealed enclosure that houses a pair of Sony Mobile ES XS-W104ES 10-inch subwoofers. The subwoofers fire down into the trunk floor, and a thick acrylic plastic window allows onlookers to see the rear of the drivers.
Attention to detail is evident everywhere in this installation. A Dark Horse logo is located between the subwoofers. The gold trim around the window highlights the color of the Sony Mobile ES logo.
A pair of five-channel Sony XM-5ES amplifiers power the system. One amp runs the left side of the car, while the other powers the right. The subwoofer channel on each amplifier is dedicated to powering one of the 10-inch drivers with 450 watts of power.
The amplifiers are mounted on a sheet of expanded PVC plastic that sits in what would be described as the spare tire well. Additional XK Glow LED lighting and clear acrylic make the amplifiers stand out.
Sound Deadening and Speeding Ticket Prevention
Of course, no car audio system upgrade is complete without a proper foundation. SoundShield stepped up with enough of their premium triple-layer deadening to ensure the car won’t buzz and rattle when the bass hits.
While at Broken Silence Custom Car Audio, the team integrated an Escort Redline CIc radar detector and laser defense system into the vehicle. The team modified the overhead trim panel to house the OLED display, adding to the project’s beautiful integration features.
Broken Silence Mustang Performance Upgrades
David Prinz owns the Broken Silence Mustang Dark Horse and is the CEO of GoFast Solutions, which distributes car audio and vehicle performance and accessory upgrades in the Northeast. David seized the opportunity to upgrade the Mustang’s physical performance capabilities with items from their distribution catalog. Aside from a massive Gen 6 Whipple supercharger, the Mustang features Kooks headers and a Borla exhaust system. The result is a 5.0-liter V8 generating well north of 850 horsepower. While the audio system might have added a few pounds, the supercharger and supporting components more than compensate for it.
The icing on the cake for this project are the stunning graphics created and installed by Sign Pro. The geometric pattern in the matte vinyl looks absolutely stunning!
We must tip our hats to B.J. and Adan from Broken Silence Custom Car Audio. The attention to detail featured in this installation is impressive. We strongly suggest looking through the entire series of build articles to learn how true professionals integrate products into modern vehicles.
We know the Project Broken Silence Mustang Dark Horse will be a hit with SEMA attendees. If you are at the 2024 SEMA Show, visit the Sony Car Audio booth 10325 in the North Hall. GoFast Solutions will undoubtedly have the Mustang at their dealer events for the next few years. Be sure to tell them you saw the build featured here on BestCarAudio.com!
